I Designed a Guidebook for a Convention!

So I just recently came back from one of my favorite Anime conventions in canada, called Ai-Kon. No, not Artificial intelligence.. but AIKON, an anime geared event that takes place in Winnipeg. This year I approached the Ai-kon team to see if they would be up for me creating the front cover for this year's limited edition guidebook, and they took me up on the offer.

This year's theme was leaning towards the Y2K style aesthetic; vibrant colors, blocky characters and lots of silve organice liquid forms.. i dont know where i'm going with that thought, Im just reminded by funky shaped glasses, poochie robot dogs, and jet set radio.

So with the character designs I tried to emulate that "esque" with the anatomy, you know square shaped oversize forearms and feet. Chibi-like, and lots of straight lines combined with the oval shape of their facial features. I based it off existing mascot designs from previous years.

Overall, the project itself was super different from what I'm more known for doing. But it ended up being a fun digital practice for me, and also has transpired into a new style that I will be exploring more in the near future.
